Google recently announced that it would be closing unused Gmail accounts, and today it provided a more detailed explanation, even specifying a date. Here is the date on which unused Gmail accounts will be closed.

We all have email accounts that we opened and never used again. Google is aware that there are many unused email accounts, so it has decided to take a new step to remove inactive accounts. The company announced today the date it will implement this decision.

Google stated that it will close unused Gmail accounts as of December 1, 2023, and mentioned that the decision will not be implemented if the account is accessed by the specified date. Google also announced that along with the deletion of the account, emails, Drive files, and photos will be erased, and contacts will be deleted.

Google, indicating that it will now perform this closure process continuously, also shared some measures to prevent accounts from being closed. These include using Google Drive, watching videos on YouTube, downloading apps from the Play Store, and logging into third-party applications. Logging into third-party applications falls under the category of using the Gmail account.

Now, let’s discuss why Google is deleting these accounts. In its statement, Google explained that unused email accounts pose a security threat. Google believes that inactive accounts have a low probability of enabling two-factor authentication, and by implementing this method, it aims to minimize computer hacking.

For now, Google has announced its new decision in this way. Starting on December 1, 2023, Google will begin deleting accounts, but all accounts will not be deleted at once. The accounts will be deleted gradually, and once deleted, they cannot be recovered. Additionally, accounts that have reached the end of their specified period will also be closed when the time comes.

How do you feel about Google’s decision? Do you have an account that is at risk of being closed? You can share your thoughts in the comments.
